Diagram of an Egg

After learning about the different parts of an egg, the children opened up an egg to observe its parts.  They discovered the white spot, yolk, albumen, chalazae, shell and shell membrane.  They are eagerly awaiting the hatching of our baby chicks on Monday!!

Shake, Shake, Shake

We had a lot of fun trying to guess what was inside everyone's shakers.  After sharing, we put them in order from highest pitch to lowest pitch.  Some of them were very close in pitch and it took a few shakes to figure them out!

A Visit With a Sled Dog Team

Thanks to our generous PTO, we visited with a sled dog team.  Becky Tucker from Outlaw Ridge Siberians brought her team of dogs to our school to talk about her hobby as a sled dog musher and racer.  Becky has over 30 siberian huskies.  Her love and dedication to these dogs was very evident in her presentation.  Becky is a veterinary nurse and takes good care of all her dogs.  The children learned a lot about sled dog racing and caring for the dogs and equipment used in racing.  This was a great culminating activity for our study of sled dogs and the Iditarod.  A big thank you to Becky and the PTO for providing this activity for us.

Learning About Sound

We have started a new unit in science on Sound.  The children experimented with various objects to find out if sound traveled through them.  The children discovered that sound can travel through several yards of cinder blocks,  wood and string.
