Flips, Slides, Turns and Symmetry

The children created designs of flips (reflections), slides (translations) and turns (rotations).  They also used their names to create a symmetrical creature!  We also used geo boards to practice making angles and shapes.

We have had a lot of fun during the geometry unit.  We spent a couple of math periods outdoors enjoying the beautiful weather and searching for our geometry vocabulary.  The children went on a geometry scavenger hunt and worked in groups to find examples of the geometric terms that they have learned throughout this unit.  We took pictures of some of the examples.  Here they are!!

The students did a great job on their community projects!  We learned a lot about the various businesses and services that are provided by our town.   The children did a nice job explaining why these places are important to our community and what goes on in each place.  We had the second grade students come to our classroom to view our projects, too!  The children presented their projects orally to our class.
